All fifteen on this page play free in your browser, and a few are played mostly for laughs. Below is who you can date in each one, how the routes split and what to know before the first date.
What is a horror dating sim?
A dating sim is a game about winning someone over: you talk, you pick replies, and the right ones bring you closer. A horror dating sim keeps that loop and makes the romance the threat. Sometimes your date is openly a monster, and the fun is flirting with something that could end you. Sometimes your date looks perfect, and the horror is noticing, a few scenes too late, that the attention never switches off.
Almost all horror romance visual novels are read-and-choose, so there’s no combat to learn. What you’re managing is a person. Is this reply charming or a mistake? Does she like you, or does she like the idea of eating you? A few take the formula as a joke, and they’re some of the most fun games here.

What playing horror romance visual novels feels like
The fifteen games here split into four moods: your date is the monster, the circus romance, the sweet relationship that turns, and the parody. Here’s what each one is like.
Your date is the monster
In I Can Smell You From Here, your first dating-app match invites you to a bistro and then mentions that she eats humans. Idimya is funny and expressive, and you spend the evening inventing reasons she shouldn’t see you as dinner, while remembering every lie you told. A first date takes 15 to 30 minutes and there are five endings to find.
How to date a Sleep Paralysis Demon starts as a bored joke: Dust searches for a way to meet one, and she shows up. The bed, window, clock and mirror in his room all matter, and the order you act in changes which of the seven endings you get. CreepyDates CHAPTER 3 is a fan-made creepypasta dating sim with six routes, including Jeff the Killer, Ben Drowned and Slenderman.
Circus romances
Three of our horror romance visual novels are set under a big top. The Freak Circus makes you Mini, a café waitress, when two performers fix on you: Pierrot, a silent clown, and Harlequin, his charming rival. The Wonderful Puppet Circus sends a theater graduate to a job interview and into the wrong tent, where Jester, all hearts and sharp teeth, greets you far too warmly. In Where The Spotlight Lingers you’re Vern, a stagehand, and the contortionist Flo is the only love interest, and the biggest question.

Horror romance visual novels that start sweet
These begin like an ordinary romance. First Base is a college crush on Dakota, a baseball player who always seems to arrive a few minutes before Yin does. The False Sun is a summer on your grandfather’s farm with Silas, a childhood friend you don’t fully remember, and 20 endings. In Gentle Fall, Chester, a very tall and very formal classmate, has been “observing” you. Big Bad Dogs sets three routes in a 2009 convenience store, The Art Shop gives you two coworkers to choose between, and Bite Your Tongue puts two love interests, Rhys and Elain, inside a blackmail plot. DNR: Do Not Reciprocate and The Cursed Box round out the group. Those two, plus First Base, Gentle Fall and The Freak Circus, are also on our yandere games page.

Played for laughs
Sophie’s Date Night With Harlequin is a satirical fan game where Sophie goes on a date with Harlequin from The Freak Circus, who keeps all his charm and loses all his menace. It was written as a birthday gift, a run takes minutes, and it has no horror in it at all, just adult jokes. It’s here because it parodies a horror dating sim, and it’s funnier if you’ve played the original.

Who you can date in these horror romance visual novels
Who you end up with decides what kind of danger you’re in, so the cast list matters. This is what each game’s page says about its routes:
- CreepyDates CHAPTER 3 has six routes: Jeff the Killer, Eyeless Jack, Ben Drowned, Ticci Toby, Masky and Hoodie, and Slenderman.
- DNR: Do Not Reciprocate has three doctors and six endings, an affection and an obsession ending for each.
- Big Bad Dogs has three love interests: Lane, BB and Red.
- I Can Smell You From Here has one date and five endings, sorted into prey, ally and rival outcomes, plus a psychological evaluation at the end.
- How to date a Sleep Paralysis Demon has seven endings, and the order you do things in matters.
- The Art Shop splits by the job you pick: the register with Lialeb or cleaning with Reficoul.
- The Freak Circus has a route for Pierrot, one for Harlequin and a combined path.
- The Cursed Box demo has three route completions and a hidden scene for finishing all three.
- Sophie’s Date Night With Harlequin has several endings, one of them openly ragebait, and a hidden Pierrot scene off the main route.

Before the first date
Cute art doesn’t make horror romance visual novels gentle. I Can Smell You From Here lists cannibalism, body horror and sexual themes. Where The Spotlight Lingers is 18+ and The Art Shop is 16+. DNR puts drugging and forced procedures on screen, The Freak Circus includes kidnapping and non-consensual situations, and the wider Gentle Fall project deals with suicide and self-harm. Even the comedy has a note: Sophie’s Date Night With Harlequin is full of crude, suggestive jokes. Each game page lists its own warnings, so check them first, and remember that unlike the characters, you can leave the date whenever you like.
